Airfield Estate is located in Dundrum just 20 minutes from Dublin City Centre.
An 18th century working farm, gardens and 38 acre Estate, Airfield was left in trust to the people of Ireland by Letitia and Naomi Overend in 1974, trailblazing sisters who understood the importance of being self-sufficient and sustainable.
Today you can enjoy the farm, gardens and heritage experience. The daily activities include egg collecting, Jersey Herd milking, calf feeding and donkey grooming. The farm at Airfield is a perfect working example of environmentally sustainable agriculture in Ireland. Visitors can experience farm life up close and even get hands-on.
View Letitia’s 1927 Rolls Royce. See the farmyard where cows are milked and eggs are collected. Visit the Kitchen Gardens to see where food is produced for the Overends restaurant. Explore the Woodland Walks with over 2,000 native trees. Enjoy food from the farm in the Overends Kitchen and explore the Farmers Market that takes place every Friday and Saturday.
To ensure every season is reflected in the estate, the gardens underwent a massive redesign project in 2014, with the help of renowned plantsman Jimi Blake and designers Lady Arabella Lennox Boyd and Dermot Foley. The colour and life you see in our gardens today are the result of the hard work and imagination of the Head Gardener Colm O’Driscoll and his team who have since put their stamp on the gardens as they continue to evolve.
There are many stories and original artefacts from our benefactors, Letitia and Naomi Overend, all of which can be discovered in a wonderful interactive Heritage Experience.
