Waterford’s coastline shines with four Blue Flag beaches, each offering pristine sands, excellent water quality, and superb coastal experiences. This prestigious status, awarded annually by An Taisce in Ireland on behalf of the Foundation for Environmental Education, marks beaches that excel in environmental management, safety, and visitor amenities.

The Blue Flag beaches in Waterford:

  1. Ardmore Beach – A sweeping, sandy shoreline set within a charming historic village. Popular for kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddling and scenic cliff walks. Families and adventure‑seekers alike will find plenty to enjoys

  2. Clonea Beach – A beautiful stretch of golden sand on the Copper Coast Geopark. Calm and scenic, ideal for family days out, safe bathing and shoreline strolls.

  3. Tramore Beach – One of Ireland’s longest beaches (approx. 5 km), famed for rolling surf, shimmering sand dunes, and easy access to surf schools. The town offers restaurants, festivals, heritage trails, and the cliff walk with sweeping sea views.

  4. Counsellor’s Strand at Dunmore East – A sheltered cove surrounded by rugged cliffs and coastal scenery. Known for tranquil bathing, scenic hiking routes, and peaceful natural beauty.
