The GPO, in the heart of Dublin’s city centre, was the communications hub of Ireland and the centre of events during the 1916 Easter Rebellion – more commonly referred to as the 1916 Rising.
GPO Witness History is located in the iconic GPO (General Post Office) building on O’Connell St., Dublin. The GPO was the headquarters of the 1916 Easter Rising which would ultimately lead to the creation of the Irish Republic. The visitor attraction focuses on the Rising, the aftermath of this rebellion and modern Irish history up to the present time. The visitor centre also includes the first ever exhibition on the Irish flag. This engaging and interactive experience brings history to life though electronic touch screens video, audio visual booths, sound and authentic artefacts—many previously unseen.
