The largest private demesne in Ireland

Curraghmore is Irelands largest private estate and for over 800 years has been the historic home of the Marquis of Waterford and his family, the De La Poers. The estate sits in 2,500 acres of woodland, grazing fields, and formal gardens.

The estate has been described by the European Historic Houses Association as ‘Irelands greatest surviving estate’. Guided tours can be booked online through the Curraghmore Website.

Useful Information
  • Visitors to Curraghmore must be aware to enter the Estate & Gardens via the main gate, located about 1km from Portlaw. All other entrances are closed to the general public.
  • Some areas of the Estate might not be accessible to people with mobility issues. Please contact alan@curraghmorehouse.ie and they will do their very best to accommodate your group.

From Waterford City: 21km, 25-35mins

Public Transport:

The main public transport option to Curraghmore is the 609 Suirway Commuter service that leaves from the Main Bus depot on the Quay’s in Waterford City to Queen Street in Portlaw where it’s just a short walk to the Curraghmore House and Gardens entrance. From there it’s a 2km road through the grounds to the house itself.
