Ideal destination for a day out

Nestled in the heart of Connemara, Kylemore Abbey is one of Ireland’s most iconic attractions. Set within a spectacular 1,000-acre estate along Pollacappul Lough, the estate combines breathtaking scenery with more than 150 years of history, romance, tragedy and resilience.

Built in the 1860s by Mitchell Henry as a family home, the magnificent Victorian castle became a Benedictine monastery in the 1920s and has been home to the Benedictine Community ever since. Today, visitors can explore beautifully restored rooms and gardens, which brings the stories of the people who lived, worked and prayed at Kylemore to life.

A visit also includes the spectacular six-acre Victorian Walled Garden, the enchanting Neo-Gothic Church, Mausoleum and woodland and lakeshore walks throughout the estate. Visitors can enjoy complimentary history talks, seasonal garden tours, food at the Kylemore Kitchen and Garden Tea House, and the unique handmade products created by the Benedictine nuns.

Whether you’re interested in Irish history, architecture, gardens, spirituality or simply spectacular Connemara scenery, Kylemore offers an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages.
